Wine Terroirs

Sauternes and Barsac

Here, too, winter was wet but quite mild, leading to early budburst though the head start was lost due to a cold spring and start of April marked by frost. Flowering went well but June was particularly wet and caused shatter and disease pressure. Botrytis ultimately established itself well and harvesting went seamlessly, producing beautifully crafted noble-rot wines but in very, very small quantities!

Sauternes and Barsac

93/100 Château Suduiraut: Very elegant, fresh nose of white flowers and crisp, ripe fruits. The palate is very fresh and lively with great length and palatability. A racy wine.

93/100 Château de Rayne-Vigneau: Minerally nose showing white fruits with a compelling honeyed touch. Unusual crisp, rich palate with an acid feel that drives the whole.

92/100 Château Lamothe-Guignard: Saline nose with candied white-fleshed fruits. Ethereal palate that stays along the same aromatic lines with a moreish tangy, candied finish.
